Supporting Local Events

We also support local events such as Round The Mountain, Lost Elephant, and Shoulder Season Movie Night, as well as many other organizations seeking donations and funding. We encourage you to support your local bike shop, as well as your local trail associations and cycling groups, to help promote and foster the great sport of cycling.

Round The Mountain

Hosted by the Kimberley Trails Society, Kootenay Freewheelers, and the Kootenay Orienteering Club out of the Kimberley Nordic Centre and on the Round The Mountain trail, Round The Mountain is Kimberley’s annual weekend long festival celebrating everything trail and active! Race the 20km trek, 20km trail run, 10km trail run, or our favourite, the 20km mountain bike on Saturday morning and then sit back and enjoy the local beer garden and live music. On Sunday, enjoy group yoga, trail runs, hikes, mountain bike rides and more!  Register early as events quickly sellout.

Freewheelers's Wednesday Night Group Ride

New to town and looking to learn the trails or meet riding partners? Or a local looking to find a mountain bike group ride going just the right pace? Check the Kootenay Freewheelers’s Wednesday night group ride, departing at 6:30 pm from the Platzl all riding season!  With groups ranging from no-drop beginners to Wednesday night worlds, the Freewheelers group ride has something for everyone, including those looking to socialise post-ride with a beverage at a local establishment.  Freewheelers membership required and available on the Freewheelers website.

Lost Elephant

For the bikepacking and adventure cycling enthusiasts, The Lost Elephant is the East Kootenay’s premier event.  From rugged single track to stunninging vistas, you’ll get an excellent sample of the area’s best gravel and adventure riding.  With two distances (the Dumbo and Jumbo), there is something for everyone up for the challenge of lining up at the annual grand depart in Cranbrook.  The Lost Elephant’s name pays homage to the tale of a herd of circus elephants that escaped from their enclosures in Cranbrook in the 1920’s, with one staying on the run for 6 weeks!

Flannel Fest

Flannel Fest is Kimberley’s classic small town annual winter festival.  A variety of winter and outdoor themed events are spread throughout the town during the festival, but our favourites are the fat bike poker ride and fat bike enduro.  A great way to meet winter riders in town and enjoy some of Kimberley’s pristine winter grooming, the fat bike poker ride is one to take at your own pace.  For those wanting to push their fat biking skills and feel the speed on groomed trails, the fat bike enduro is right up your alley.  Registration details on the Flannel Fest Facebook page.

Shoulder Season Movie Night

Looking to unwind with a curated movie and support a great cause? Check out the Kimberley Trails Society biannual Shoulder Season Movie Night! A fundraiser for the Kimberley Trails Society, currently raising funds for updating the Kimberley Bike Park, Shoulder Season Movie Night is hosted at Kimberley’s Centre 64 features a selection of current adventure and bike films from local and world renowned filmmakers.  Get your tickets when you can as they sell out quickly!

Cranbrook Gravel Grind

Need an introduction to the world of East Kootenay gravel riding? The Cranbrook Gravel Grind is just the ticket.  With two distances departing from Cranbrook, the Cranbrook Gravel Grind rambles through the Chief Isadore Trail before venturing onto the forestry roads of the Cranbrook South Country.  A part of the Anything Goes Event Series, the Cranbrook Gravel Grind is the East Kootenay’s premier gravel riding event.

Wasa Lake Triathlon

Hosted annually in beautiful Wasa Lake Provincial Park, the Wasa Lake Triathlon has both Sprint and Olympic distances for those just getting into triathlon and seasoned veterans alike.  Not feeling up for all 3 sports? Check out the relay events! Is your grom wanting some multi-sport action? The TriKids Triathlon event is a fantastic introduction into the sport.

Single Track 6

The world renowned 6 day mountain bike stage race Single Track 6 routinely makes stops to sample the Kimberley trails goodness.  Whether it is blasting down Mussers Plateau or spinning up Mountain Mine Road, Single Track 6 truly tackles all of the trails available in Kimberley.  Single Track 6 ventures across the interior of British Columbia and southern Alberta annually cherry picking the best trails.  3 and 6 day race packages are available.

Trans BC Enduro

The Trans BC Enduro is a world class, 6 day enduro event that is staged annually in British Columbia and hosts stages in the East Kootenays.  Rugged trails descend alpine ridges, traverse treeline passes, and swoop through forested trails.  An all inclusive event, Trans BC Enduro covers your food, accommodation, and transport so you just need to focus on the riding.  Except to be challenged, and to end the day with a smile on your face and beer in hand!

BC Epic 1000

The BC Epic 1000 is a popular ultra distance cycling route that passes through Kimberley as it traverses British Columbia.  Merritt to Fernie, and primarily on decommissioned railways, the BC Epic 1000 can be tackled as a solo endeavour or join the group at the grand depart every spring in Merritt.  Kimberley is the perfect respite after coming off the high point of the route, Grey Creek Pass.  A great introduction to bikepacking, tackle any segment of the route and experience the best the British Columbia has to offer.
