Jody Johnson

One of our fearless leaders. Jody is here all the way from Moncton, NB. He grew up racing BMX and cross country mountain bikes. When he was 15 on a family trip to Calgary Jody saw the Rockies and In 1995 Jody moved out West chasing mt biking and snowboarding in the big mountains. Moving through mountain towns in Alberta and BC for a couple decades, riding, wrenching and learning the ins and outs of the bike shop world, he found himself starting up Bootleg Bike Co. with Mat Boudreau in 2018.

Now he finds himself chasing two crazy children and managing a busy shop.  We get him out on a bike now and then just to make sure that he can still do it.  In Jody’s spare time…wait a second he doesn’t have much of that, but in the little he does, he is with the family and getting out for a solid e-bike ride.

Bike of choice: Rocky Mountain Altitude Power Play C90 Rally Edition

Mat Boudreau

Our other fearless leader, also hails from Moncton, NB. Mat has been around bikes for his whole life racing cross country in the late 80s and has been working in bike shops since 1990.  Moving to Banff in the 90s for proper mountain biking. Mat has been in Kimberley since 2003, back then the ski lift was even turning for bikes in the summer (crazy right?!).  Mat and Christine were trail building up off Bootleg FSR in the early days, which grew into the Bootleg trail network that has also become our shop’s namesake.

Mat is a very passionate cyclist and can be found throwing down some serious kilometers from epic mountain bike rides, insane gravel routes, to his new found passion of bike packing.  There isn’t much this guy doesn’t know about the bicycle.

Bike of Choice: Specialized Epic Evo Expert

Richard Hulton

All the way from Kingston, Ontario.  Richard is a skilled and thorough bike technician, who has dialed his skills working in the bike industry since the early 2000s. He started his bike journey in Ontario on the road scene, but when he picked up a mountain bike in his 20’s he gave up the spandex for some baggies and knee pads. Richard moved around BC from Nelson to Prince George working in bike shops until he settled in Kimberley in 2020.

Richard can either be found out on the lesser traveled jank trails or slaying the trails on his E-bike with his dog Giove.  He is also one of those crazy people who not only owns a hardtail but two hardtails.  Richard really likes bikes and looks forward to fixing yours!

Bike of Choice: Norco Fluid FS 1

Christine Warren

Hailing from Victoria, BC, Christine has been in Kimberley since 2003 and slinging bikes at the shop since day one. Christine made her way into the bike scene in her late 20’s. After decades of slaying it on the mountain bike, Christine stepped into the realm of gravel, which quickly turned into a passion for long distance bikepacking adventures. She completed the Lost Elephant Race (a 350km bikepacking race) and has her sights set on more of these so-called “fun” races.

Christine spends her time logging many kilometers on her many bikes or at the Bauernhaus where she is a bit of a local legend. She can conveniently be found here at the shop for all your bike and Bauernhaus reservation needs.

Kayla Lissel

Originally from Calgary, Kayla got into riding in her mid 20’s and quickly moved into working in the bike industry.  She started working at a shop in Nanaimo for just a summer and it quickly turned into many years later and a career in the bike world. After getting her fill of island life Kayla moved to Kimberley in 2022 to live the Kootenay lifestyle and shred all the Kootenay gnar!. Kayla’s knowledge and experience is second to none and her personality and demeanor instantly puts you at ease.

Kayla likes long rides on the mountain bike and is addicted to the feeling of riding a trail for the first time.  Kayla likes riding bikes and giggling more than anything.  She’s also known to snowboard or ski from time to time and when the snow is bad, she spends her time in the climbing gym.

Bike of Choice: Juliana Roubion 4 S-Kit

Tom Thannhauser

Tom is from Calgary, and found himself in Kimberley in 2016 and joined us in 2021. He is a very well rounded cyclist, racing road/track in the 80’s till he switched to the wider tires in the 90’s.  Dirt is just more fun!

Tom has extensive bike knowledge, and a bike for every occasion.  Tom is a weekend warrior at the shop. Keep an eye out for the wild on two wheels, but he is a bit of a two wheel chameleon from the gravel bike to the motorcycle and everything in between.
